Frequently asked questions
What does our first session look like?
During the initial visit, we will discuss current symptoms, concerns, and history in order to complete a thorough evaluation and better understand possible diagnoses. From there, we will work together to create an individualized treatment plan that feels comfortable and appropriate, whether that includes medication, therapy recommendations, lifestyle changes, or a combination of approaches.
What if my child or teen won't open up to you?
Building trust takes time, and the goal is never to force someone to open up before they are ready. My approach is to create a supportive, nonjudgmental environment where teens feel heard, respected, and comfortable being themselves. Often, as trust and consistency build, conversations become more natural and open over time.
How often will you communicate with me as a parent?
Parent involvement is an important part of treatment, especially with medication management. I typically speak with parents at each visit to gather feedback about positive and negative responses to medication, behavioral changes, and overall functioning, while also making sure the child or teen has an opportunity to share their own experience and concerns.
