Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

It's an introductory session where I listen, understand your situation, and start mapping out how I can support you. It's structured but still very conversational and comfortable.

How often will you communicate with me as a parent?

I typically communicate with parents at intake, for care coordination as needed, and for periodic updates when appropriate and with consent. Most ongoing work remains focused on the client's privacy and therapeutic process.

What if my child or teen won't open up to you?

Early sessions often focus on rapport-building. It's normal for children and teens to take time to open up in counseling and that can take a few sessions.

How will I know if therapy is working?

Therapy is working when you start to notice small changes over time.

Do you give homework or practice between sessions?

Yes, I may suggest small things to practice between sessions such as trying a coping skill or a communication skill.
