Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

Our first session is all about getting to know your child and your family's concerns, goals, and strengths. We'll talk about what brought you in, discuss any challenges your child may be experiencing, and answer any questions you may have about the counseling process. The first session is designed to help everyone feel comfortable, supported, and understood while beginning to build trust and connection.

How often will you communicate with me as a parent?

Communication with parents is very important to me. I provide regular updates regarding progress, concerns, and overall support while also respecting your child's privacy and creating a safe space for them to share openly. You can expect communication as needed through check-ins, emails, phone calls, or scheduled meetings, and I will always reach out if there are any significant concerns related to your child's well-being or safety.

What if my child or teen won't open up to you?

It's completely normal for some children and teens to feel nervous, unsure, or guarded at first. Building trust takes time, and I never force children and teens to share before they are ready. My goal is to create a safe, supportive, and judgement-free environment were they can feel comfortable expressing themselves at their own pace. Sometimes connection happens through activities, games, art, or simply consistent support and presence. Even when progress feels slow, relationship-building is an important and meaningful first step.

Parent of an 11 year old

It is always a good feeling to see my daughter looking forward to her session even when she knows it will be tough at points. But she sure found her person that she connects with.

Our counselor is amazing. She is meeting my daughter's needs on her level as if they have known each other for a while. The first session I saw the social anxiety flare at its "finest" at the possibility of meeting someone new but already before session 2, she was saying this was the one thing positive she was looking forward to. For me as her mom it puts my heart at peace knowing that feels she has someone else in her corner.
