Frequently asked questions
What does our first session look like?
The initial session is focused on helping your child feel comfortable, safe, and supported in the counseling space. I spend time getting to know them through conversation about their interests, strengths, daily life, and any concerns they may wish to share. Depending on age and comfort level, sessions may include games, drawing, or other rapport-building activities. Parent involvement is typically included at the beginning and/or end of session to discuss concerns, answer questions, and review goals and next steps for counseling.
How will I know if therapy is working?
You may begin to notice therapy is working when you feel more aware of your thoughts and emotions, respond to stress in healthier ways, communicate more effectively and feel more confident managing daily challenges. Progress can look different for everyone and often happens gradually through small but meaningful changes over time. Remember that small progress is still progress!
How often will you communicate with me as a parent?
Communication with parents will vary based on the child’s needs, treatment goals, and age but I typically provide brief check-ins or updates as clinically appropriate while also maintaining the child’s confidentiality and creating a safe therapeutic space. Collaboration with parents is encouraged to support progress, address concerns and discuss recommendations when needed.
How long does therapy typically take?
The length of therapy varies from person to person and depends on the goals, needs and challenges being faced. Some individuals find that a few months of focused work helps them achieve their goals, while others benefit from longer-term support as they navigate ongoing life stressors, relationships, or personal growth. During our work together, we'll regularly review your progress and make sure therapy continues to meet your needs. Ultimately, therapy is a collaborative process, and we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable and meaningful for you.

We really loved our first session. She was incredibly kind and made me feel so much more at ease. We were pretty nervous going in, but within a few minutes it all felt natural and comfortable. She was very helpful.
