About psychologists for adults in Missouri

A lot of adults book an evaluation for themselves in the weeks after their child gets one. The pattern in the report reads as familiar, because it is also theirs, and it puts thirty years of being called careless or scattered or not applying yourself in a different light. If that is what brought you here, you are in good company.

The psychologists on this page hold a doctorate, are licensed in Missouri, and evaluate adults as well as children. An adult evaluation has the same shape as a child’s: an intake, structured testing, then a written report and a feedback session. The questions are different, though. It looks at how attention, learning, and mood actually show up in your work and at home now, and at your developmental history, put together from what you remember and from old school records if you still have them.

What you get is a diagnosis where one fits and recommendations you can use, whether that is workplace accommodations, a referral for treatment, or a clear account of what has been happening that you can hand to your own clinician. Everything is done by video, which for a parent already running a child’s appointment schedule is usually the difference between doing this and not.

Psychologists for Parents in Missouri: common questions

How much does an adult evaluation cost in Missouri?
Testing is billed as a package rather than per session. The package covers your intake, the evaluation itself, and a feedback session where you get the written report and a plan. Emora is in-network with most major commercial plans, and with Medicaid in several states. Coverage for testing varies more from plan to plan than therapy coverage does, so check yours before you book at /cost-estimate. The estimate you get back is for the whole package, not one visit.
Can I be evaluated at the same time as my child?
You can be evaluated in parallel, and families often do, because the developmental history overlaps and the logistics are already in place. They are still two separate evaluations, with two reports and two charts, and yours is confidential to you. If you want the same psychologist to do both, say so at the intake and they will tell you whether that is the right call or whether separate clinicians would serve you better.
What ages does this page cover?
Adults. Each provider card shows that psychologist’s own age range. Evaluation for your child is on the child psychology and teen psychology pages for Missouri. Emora is a family practice, so being seen here does not mean being handed off to a separate adult service.
Is an adult ADHD or autism diagnosis actually useful?
It is useful if something follows it. A formal evaluation is what opens the door to treatment that requires a diagnosis, and it is what supports a workplace accommodation request. It also separates ADHD from anxiety, depression, sleep debt, and the ordinary load of parenting a child in treatment, which matters because those are treated differently and get mistaken for each other all the time. If the evaluation finds no diagnosis, that is a real result too, and the report will tell you what it did find.
How long does it take, and is it all virtual?
All of it is over video. The intake is generally available within about a week, the testing sessions and feedback are scheduled from there, and most adults have their report within a few weeks. You will need a quiet room and an uninterrupted block for the testing sessions. That is the one part that does not survive being done with a child in the room.

Today I finally accomplished something that I have been putting off for years- getting help for myself. This can feel daunting to most and is truly nerve recking unless you find a Dr. who is compassionate and helpful at every step and I found just that in Dr. Nitsch. I have only had a consultation so far but I have never felt more seen and understood in my life. Dr. Nitsch is a gem and I am happy God placed her in my life. Hoping for a smooth process in this journey.
