Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

The first session is relaxed and conversational. I spend time helping your child feel comfortable — they can talk, draw, or show me things that matter to them. I also check in with parents to understand goals and routines so we can create a plan that fits your family.

Some parents prefer to meet with me one‑on‑one before or after their child’s first session to share background information or ask questions privately. That option is always available and can help us start with clarity and confidence.

What if my child or teen won't open up to you?

That’s completely normal. I use creative and play‑informed approaches that help kids express themselves without pressure. Sometimes connection starts with showing me a favorite toy or drawing — and that’s where trust begins.

How do you handle confidentiality with teens?

Teens need privacy to build trust, but parents also deserve awareness. I explain confidentiality clearly at the start and share safety‑related or major concerns right away. My goal is to keep everyone informed while protecting your teen’s sense of safety.

How long does therapy typically take?

Every child’s timeline is unique. Some families see progress in a few months; others prefer ongoing support. We’ll review goals regularly to make sure therapy continues to meet your child’s needs.

How do I know if my child needs therapy?

You may notice changes in mood, motivation, school performance, sleep, or behavior. You might also see your child struggling with grief, transitions, or big emotions. If something feels “off,” therapy can provide clarity, support, and tools for your child and family.

Do you involve parents in the process?

Yes! Parents are an essential part of the treatment team. I provide updates, guidance, and support so you feel confident helping your child at home. Some sessions may include parent check‑ins, depending on your child’s needs and comfort.

What can my child expect in a session?

Sessions are relaxed, supportive, and child‑led. Kids can talk, draw, show me things from their room, or engage in activities that help them express themselves. I use a mix of conversation, creative tools, and coping strategies to help them feel safe, understood, and empowered.

What is your approach to working with kids?

My approach is warm, relational, and developmentally attuned. I blend Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, and Play‑informed techniques. Kids lead the pace, and I meet them exactly where they are — whether that’s talking, drawing, moving, or sharing parts of their world.
