Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

Our first session will be an intake session. This includes gathering background information on treatment history, presenting problems and other important things that will be helpful for me to know moving forward in your treatment. For children and adolescents, I will spend half the session speaking to parents/guardians and half the session speaking with the child.

How long does therapy typically take?

This is different for everyone. Typically, I will recommend that we complete 6-10 sessions before re-assessing for further treatment needs.

Do you give homework or practice between sessions?

Sometimes it can be helpful to work on things between sessions so that our time together can be more focused and productive. I will sometimes ask that clients complete something before their next session and we can discuss and decide together what that may be.

How do you handle confidentiality with teens?

Therapy is meant to be a safe space for your child. We will have a level of confidentiality in sessions. I will discuss this with them during our 1st session. Clients can give me permission to share information with you or involve you in therapy as much as they would like. However, I will ALWAYS notify you & other necessary parties if there are any threats of harm to self (suicidal ideation, self-injurious behaviors, etc) or to others disclosed during a session. I am a mandated reporter in all states & am required to report any concern for abuse or neglect that is brought to my attention.
