About teen psychologists in Illinois
Teenagers get evaluated for different reasons than younger children do. By this age the question is rarely whether something is going on. It is why grades fell off a cliff in one particular year, whether the anxiety and the attention problem are the same thing, whether a diagnosis made at seven still describes this person at fifteen, or what documentation a school or testing board will actually accept.
The clinicians on this page hold a doctorate and are licensed to evaluate in Illinois. A teen evaluation leans harder on your teen’s own account than a younger child’s does. Alongside the standardized measures, there is a clinical interview they sit for themselves, and the feedback session is usually run so that they hear the results directly instead of having them relayed. That matters more than it sounds. A fifteen-year-old who understands their own report is far more likely to actually use the accommodations in it.
Evaluations run over video across several sessions and end in a written report with recommendations for school, for therapy, and where it applies, for a prescriber. Everyone listed is licensed in Illinois and bills insurance.
Teen Psychologists in Illinois: common questions
- How much does teen psychological testing cost in Illinois?
- Testing is billed as a package rather than per session. The package covers your intake, the evaluation itself, and a feedback session where you get the written report and a plan. Emora is in-network with most major commercial plans, and with Medicaid in several states. Coverage for testing varies more from plan to plan than therapy coverage does, so check yours before you book at /cost-estimate. The estimate you get back is for the whole package, not one visit.
- Will the report be accepted for school accommodations or extended time?
- Emora reports are written to the standard schools and testing boards expect: the instruments used, the scores, a diagnosis where one is warranted, and specific recommended accommodations instead of vague suggestions. Districts and testing boards set their own documentation rules, and some require testing done within a recent window. Tell your psychologist at the intake exactly what you need the report for, and they will tell you plainly whether this evaluation will meet it.
- What ages does this page cover?
- Adolescents. Each provider card shows that psychologist’s own age range. Younger children are on the child psychology page for Illinois. Several of these clinicians also evaluate adults, which matters if your teen is about to turn eighteen partway through the process.
- My teen was diagnosed years ago. Is testing again worth it?
- Often, yes, and it is one of the more common reasons families book. A profile from age seven describes a child who does not exist anymore. Accommodations granted in elementary school frequently do not carry into high school or college. And a bright teen who coasted for years tends to hit a wall once the work gets harder, which is when a condition that was masked finally shows up. Testing again also catches the case where the first diagnosis was not wrong, just incomplete.
- Does my teen have to attend every session?
- Yes. The testing sessions are with them, and there is no version of this that works without their participation. Sessions are over video, which for most teenagers is a much easier ask than a run of clinic appointments. You are involved at the intake, in the questionnaires, and at the feedback session. The testing hours themselves are your teen and the psychologist.
