Frequently asked questions
What does our first session look like?
Our first session will be about gathering background information, getting to know you, building on trust and rapport and learning about your likes and dislikes and what brought you into therapy. : )
How often will you communicate with me as a parent?
At the onset of each session, I communicate with parents to explore the type of week that the child had and what his/her symptoms were. When necessary, we can utilize a session to address the child's/family needs.
How will I know if therapy is working?
You will know that therapy is working when your daily symptoms decrease and you begin engaging in challenges with less distress. Self-awareness will increase, healthier boundary setting will reveal itself, the ability to apply coping skills and relaxation techniques will be present, and you will also notice a quicker emotional and behavioral recovery.
What if my child or teen won't open up to you?
It can take time for a child to feel comfortable opening up in therapy, especially if they were hesitant or needed encouragement to attend sessions. Therapy is a new experience, and building trust and rapport often develops gradually over several sessions. While some children may open up quickly, others may need additional time to feel safe and understood. Ongoing encouragement and support from parents can play an important role in helping children feel more comfortable and engaged in the therapeutic process. A small positive reward helps too!

She was very professional but still warm. I didn't feel judged at all but I could tell she was listening and absorbing info. I also love how she works and how she approaches things.

Patricia has been wonderful. My daughter is more confident and can safely set boundaries with others while feeling supported by more than just me.
