Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

Our first session is a chance for us to get to know each other in a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space. We'll talk about what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any questions you may have. There's no pressure to share everything at once we'll move at a pace that feels comfortable for you and begin creating a path forward together.

How will I know if therapy is working?

Therapy looks different for everyone, but you may begin to notice positive changes such as feeling more confident, managing stress more effectively, improving your relationships, or gaining a deeper understanding of yourself. We'll regularly check in on your goals, celebrate progress, and adjust our approach as your needs evolve. Growth isn't always linear, but every step forward matters.

What if my child or teen won't open up to you?

It's completely normal for children and teens to take time to feel comfortable in therapy. Building trust happens at their pace, and I never force conversations before they're ready. I use a warm, supportive approach to help them feel safe expressing themselves in ways that feel natural. As trust grows, many young people become more open, and we'll work together to support their progress every step of the way.

How often will you communicate with me as a parent?

I believe parents play an important role in their child's progress. We'll discuss a communication plan that supports your child's needs while respecting their privacy and helping build trust in the therapeutic relationship. I'll provide regular updates on goals, progress, and ways you can support your child, while keeping the details they share in session confidential whenever appropriate.
