Frequently asked questions
What does our first session look like?
The first session is focused on getting to know your child or teen, understanding your concerns, and helping everyone feel comfortable. With younger children, this may include play, drawing, or other age-appropriate activities. I’ll also spend time with parents/caregivers to gather background information, discuss goals, and answer questions about the therapy process.
How will I know if therapy is working?
Progress can look different for every child or teen. Some common signs include improved communication, better emotional regulation, healthier coping skills, improved behavior at home or school, and stronger relationships. Therapy is not always a straight line, but we will regularly discuss goals, progress, and any changes you are noticing.
What if my child or teen won’t open up to you?
That’s very common, especially in the beginning. Building trust takes time, and I never force children or teens to talk before they are ready. My approach focuses on creating a safe, supportive environment where they can feel comfortable expressing themselves in their own way and at their own pace.
How long does therapy typically take?
The length of therapy depends on your child or teen’s needs, goals, and the challenges they are facing. Some clients benefit from short-term support focused on a specific issue, while others may need longer-term therapy for deeper emotional or behavioral concerns. We will regularly review progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

Jennifer is the first clinician in a very long time that made me feel HEARD. It was completely and totally tailored to what I said I needed, what I know my daughter needs and she guided me through picking what seems like the right candidates for the job.
