Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

The first session is an opportunity to get to know one another and develop a shared understanding of your concerns and goals. We'll discuss what is happening currently, review relevant past experiences, and identify what you hope to achieve through therapy, incorporating both the client's and the caregiver's input. We will also review important aspects of the therapeutic process. Most importantly, our first session is the foundation for building a trusting, collaborative relationship as we begin working together toward meaningful change.

How do you handle confidentiality with teens?

The same confidentiality rules apply across the lifespan. This means that what is shared in the therapy space is confidential unless the client presents as a risk to themselves or others. When I feel there is information that is important to share with caregivers, this will be discussed openly with the client and they can decide when or if to share. Ultimately, therapy is a safe space to explore vulnerable feelings without fear of judgement or breaches of confidentiality.

How often will you communicate with me as a parent?

I use a collaborative approach that recognizes caregivers as an important part of the therapeutic process. When appropriate, parent and family sessions can be incorporated. Between sessions, I provide caregivers with practical strategies and coping skills to reinforce progress at home. I also welcome caregiver updates and maintain ongoing communication about treatment goals and progress while always respecting the client's confidentiality and fostering a trusting therapeutic relationship.

Although just an intake session to gather history, Taryn was professional, yet warm and made me feel comfortable in sharing and most importantly I felt heard.

Taryn really listened and was able to distill a ton of inputs into the right data points to help us match with the right care provider for our daughter. She was warm and thoughtful, and made us feel like we were in exactly the right place to help our daughter get the support she needs.

I have noticed a huge difference in my 8 year olds ability to control her emotions a few months ago they where talking about medicating her and that this had to be done but I wanted to try therapy first, Taryn has been super helpful and has helped her so much in learning how to manage her emotions and thoughts that she has been doing so much better a complete 180 I’m very satisfied with her therapist and therapy sessions.
