Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

Our first session is an opportunity to get to know one another and begin building a comfortable, trusting therapeutic relationship. We will discuss what brings you to counseling, your current concerns, personal history, strengths, and goals for treatment. I will ask questions to better understand your experiences, while also giving you space to share at your own pace. We will review confidentiality, answer any questions you may have, and collaborate on a plan that supports your needs. The session is focused on understanding your story and identifying meaningful next steps together.

How often will you communicate with me as a parent?

Communication with parents depends on the client’s age, needs, and treatment goals. For children and younger adolescents, I typically provide regular updates about progress, themes being addressed, and ways to support growth at home while maintaining appropriate therapeutic boundaries. For older adolescents, communication is balanced with their right to privacy and confidentiality. I encourage parent involvement when it benefits treatment and am available to discuss concerns, answer questions, and collaborate as needed. The frequency of communication will be determined together.
