Frequently asked questions
What does our first session look like?
We get to know each other, clarify what brings you in, explore what you need, and set a direction that feels safe and doable.
How will I know if therapy is working?
We will review progress before each session. We will measure progress by reviewing the frequency, duration , and intensity of the unwanted behaviors. This will allow us to know if therapy is working.
How often will you communicate with me as a parent?
I prefer to communicate with the client’s parents before or after each session. I understand some parents’ schedules limited their ability to be present each session; therefore, I am happy to meet with the parents at least one a month via email or before or after a session.
How do you handle confidentiality with teens?
During the initial session, we about confidently- every thing is kept confidential unless the client informs me that someone is harming him/her, the client wants to harm someone else, or the client is harming himself/herself.
Do you give homework or practice between sessions?
Yes, I provide homework and/or coping skills that should be implemented outside of therapy. This helps measure progress as well.
How long does therapy typically take?
The length of the sessions ranges from 30 to one hour. The amount of sessions are determined by the client’s progress.
