Frequently asked questions
What does our first session look like?
I discuss the primary concerns, ask questions to get to know you as a person, such as likes, dislikes, hobbies, daily routines, challenges, accomplishments/strengths, etc., life practices (spirituality/culture). I will ask what your goals are for therapy, explain my initial thoughts and direction for working with you, and how to best integrate those ideas collaboratively into your lifestyle.
How do you decide together when therapy is done?
I set an initial goal, depending on the concern, typically between 6-12 weeks ranging from 1x/week to 1x every two weeks for 30-60 minutes. Around week 8, we will discuss progress and determine if there are any additional concerns that arose or adding goals. If we discuss progress in some areas but not in others, we can adjust sessions as needed, such as increasing/decreasing time or frequency. If we feel needs have been met and skills are being maintained through inevitable challenges, we can begin to discuss discharge plans and future implications if needed.

It went very well. My son was extremely nervous and apprehensive at first, but Alyssa was able to get him to open up with no pressure. She was patient and established a great rapport with him. So much so that he said only wanted to talk to her moving forward. But it didnt stop there, she was also very supportive toward me as well. I am looking forward to our next session and I plan on trying to get her for some personal sessions as well.

My daughter said “She was nice and listened to me”. This is the first therapist who has engaged me in my daughters treatment and I look forward to working with her.

The process was easy and even on my archaic devices I was able to connect easily and remain connected for the duration of our session. Although this was our first session I felt like my situation was actually seen and considered and our therapist has a genuine desire to help me meet the needs of my child. I feel like this may be the help we've been searching for for so long.
