Frequently asked questions
What does the initial assessment look like?
The initial assessment, or intake, is the opportunity for me to learn about why you are seeking evaluation for yourself or your child. We will review your client background form in more depth, allowing me to ask follow up questions and gather more information. I will also review the evaluation process and what you can expect, and answer any questions you may have about the process. Note that testing does not take place during this session.
What can be expected during the evaluation?
Evaluations typically take anywhere between 60 and 90 minutes, with breaks provided as needed or requested. You or your child should have a private, quiet place to work, with a reliable internet connection. If your child is being evaluated, you or another adult should be within earshot to assist with any technical or behavioral difficulties. Evaluation generally consists of interview questions, objective and standardized assessments, and rating scales. Results are not immediately available, but I am happy to answer any follow up questions.
When can I expect the report?
My typical report turnaround time is between 2-4 weeks. Timely completion of rating scales by you and/or your child's teacher(s) greatly helps to expediate the process. I provide the report at the time of the feedback session. Because it is a lot of information to take in at one time, I remain available to families for follow up questions even after the feedback is completed.
Can you help me get my child help in school?
Yes. After the evaluation is complete, I will review any school-based recommendations and provide a specific action plan as appliable for how to initiate the process of requesting school-based supports.
How do I complete the Release of Information?
The Release of Information (ROI) should include the name and email of the person from whom information is requested. For example, your child's teacher, or their pediatrician. You should not put your own name or email, or my name or email. If you have questions about what to check for the ROI, please message me.
