Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

For children and teens, our first session will start with having a parent or guardian present to gather background information and establish treatment plan goals. In the latter portion of the session, your child and I will speak one-on-one to learn more about their own goals for treatment. For adult sessions, we will set some treatment plan goals together and learn about what you want from treatment. We will also spend some time getting to know one another and building rapport!

How will I know if therapy is working?

We will review treatment plan goals to ensure that progress is being made. For sessions with children and teens, we will have periodic sessions where parents and guardians are involved to review progress and goals. I will also frequently conduct assessments to measure progress with clinical symptoms if applicable, such as symptoms of depression and anxiety.

What if my child or teen won't open up to you?

It takes some time for children to get comfortable speaking to a new person, and I understand that! I am patient with them and don't push them to talk about the heavy stuff first. Establishing rapport is important, and I will spend time getting to know them and their interests to be able to establish a connection and let them know that I truly care. I also understand that humor and lightheartedness are important tools for connecting with children! I am myself in the therapy space and love to be silly and nurturing to help children feel safe.
