Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

The initial assessment focuses on gathering relevant biopsychosocial information, obtaining a comprehensive history, building rapport, and getting to know the individual and/or family. Information collected during the assessment helps identify treatment needs and guides the development of individualized, clinically appropriate treatment goals and recommendations!

What if my child or teen won't open up to you?

It is common for some children and teens to take time to feel comfortable in therapy. I use a variety of age-appropriate, evidence-based strategies to help build rapport, reduce anxiety, and create a safe, supportive environment where they can open up at their own pace. If progress remains limited despite trying different approaches, that's okay! Every individual is different, and I can provide recommendations for another therapist on our team who may be a better fit for your child's unique needs.
