Frequently asked questions

What if my child or teen won't open up to you?

It’s completely normal for children and teens to feel hesitant about opening up, especially when starting therapy. I don’t expect them to share everything right away. I focus first on building trust and creating a comfortable, judgment-free relationship at their pace. Through conversation, activities, and getting to know them as an individual, I work to help them feel safe, understood, and comfortable being themselves.

How long does therapy typically take?

Every child and teen is different, so there is no set timeline for therapy. Some may benefit from a few months of support, while others may need longer-term care. I regularly check in with clients and families about progress and goals so we can adjust treatment as their needs change. My goal is to provide the support they need while helping them develop skills they can continue using beyond therapy.

How often will you communicate with me as a parent?

I believe parents are an important part of supporting a child or teen, while also respecting their privacy and independence. I communicate with parents as needed to discuss progress, goals, concerns, and ways they can support their child at home. The frequency of communication will vary based on the child’s needs, age, and treatment goals, and I work to keep parents informed while maintaining a trusting space for their child.
