Frequently asked questions
Yes — we accept Aetna, which is Northwestern's student health insurance. Most students pay less than $20 out of pocket. If you're on a parent's plan, we accept most major commercial insurance including BCBS, Cigna, and United Healthcare.
Emora works great as a complement to existing care, or as your primary support during the school year. Our providers are licensed in Illinois so they can see you virtually from wherever you are on campus.
Our psychiatrists can evaluate and prescribe certain medications including SSRIs for anxiety and depression. In your first session, our team will work with you to determine whether therapy, medication, or a combination of both is the right approach. We currently do not prescribe stimulant medications for ADHD, though our therapists are experienced in supporting students with ADHD regardless of whether medication is part of the picture.
Not at all. A formal diagnosis is never required to begin therapy or psychiatry sessions with Emora. Many students simply start because they want someone to talk to.
Yes. Your sessions and records are completely private. Nothing is shared with Northwestern, your parents, or anyone else without your explicit consent.
Emora is not a crisis service. If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 988 or go to your nearest emergency room. Northwestern's CAPS office also offers same-day urgent appointments for students in crisis.
