Frequently asked questions

How often will you communicate with me as a parent?

For younger children, I often check in with parents at the end of each session or schedule periodic parent meetings. For adolescents, I encourage independence while still keeping parents informed about overall progress, treatment recommendations, and any significant concerns. If there are any safety concerns or urgent issues, I will contact you promptly.

How will I know if therapy is working?

Therapy looks different for every child and family, so progress is measured based on each client's unique goals. As therapy continues, you may notice improvements such as healthier coping skills, better emotional regulation, improved communication, stronger relationships, increased confidence, or a reduction in the behaviors or symptoms that brought your child to therapy.

What if my child or teen won't open up to you?

It's common for children and teens to feel nervous or hesitant when starting therapy. Building trust takes time, and I never force a child to talk before they're ready. Instead, I focus on creating a safe, supportive, and nonjudgmental environment where they can feel comfortable at their own pace.

I use age-appropriate, engaging approaches, such as games, creative activities, conversation, and evidence-based techniques, to help children and teens express themselves in ways that feel natural. As trust develops, most clients become more comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings.

We had a very positive therapy session. Danisha was patient, engaging, and made my child feel safe and comfortable. My child was able to express themselves openly and left the session feeling encouraged and confident. We truly appreciate the supportive environment and thoughtful approach.
