Frequently asked questions

What does our first session look like?

I spend the first 10-15 minutes connecting with the family system players, then spend the remainder of the time with the client/child.

How often will you communicate with me as a parent?

Communication can happen often through the "chat system" of Emora and it is heavy checking in in the first 5 minutes of each of the first 5 sessions.

Do you give homework or practice between sessions?

Not every single time but more often than not.

How do you handle confidentiality with teens?

I educate them about what it means and what the boundaries are communicating with the parents unless there are "safety issues" that arise in the sessions. I do not want to blindsided them or the parents with what is appropriate to discuss in progress updates.

How do you decide together when therapy is done?

We discuss specific goals monthly and if the client is making progress towards achieving the goals-example may be a greater than 30% improvement in use of coping skills and greater than 30% improvement in self-ratings of progress from a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being maximum progress. If a client is showing consistent progress over 3-6 months, then the process of after is introduced and all parties will understand what that may look like (termination of the therapy process or reduction of frequency of session).

Mark is an amazing therapist who listens, understands, makes you feel heard without judgment. He has a calm, way of helping you work through things while also giving real support. I always feel safe, respected, and understood in our sessions. He has made such a positive difference in my healing journey, and I’m truly grateful for the compassion, patience, and insight he brings. I highly recommend Mark to anyone looking for a therapist who genuinely cares and helps you feel less alone.

Mark is great at listening to parental concerns and how to address them, open to feedback and open to creating a custom plan to better my son’s care.

I think it's good that Mark was able to relate so quickly with what Christian is going through. I hope my son starts opening up soon and listening to us so we can help him.

The session went well. Mark was extremely patient and listened intently when we expressed our thoughts. I felt at ease with him during the session. Most importantly, our son mentioned that he likes his new therapist. This is a win in our book.
