Dr. Madison Smart-McCarthy

Dr. Madison Smart-McCarthy, Ph.D., is a licensed clinical psychologist at Florida Psychological Associates in Fernandina Beach, Florida, where she conducts psychological evaluations and provides evidence-based therapy for children, adolescents, and adults across a wide range of conditions, including ADHD, autism, anxiety, depression, OCD, eating disorders, and trauma and stressor-related disorders.

Madison earned her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Virginia Consortium Program (APA-accredited) in 2023, with a dissertation on the incremental validity of the MMPI-A-RF and MACI in clinical outpatient settings. She completed her doctoral internship at the University of Idaho Counseling and Testing Center and her postdoctoral residency at Florida Psychological Associates. She also holds an M.A. in Community and Clinical Psychology from Norfolk State University and a B.S. in Psychology from Longwood University.

She has specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (TF-ACT), the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS), and trauma and grief-based therapies. As lead forensic psychologist at FPA, she also conducts competency-to-stand-trial, sentence mitigation, and not-guilty-by-reason-of-insanity evaluations for public defenders, federal investigators, and private attorneys.

Madison is an active researcher and presenter on the MMPI-3 and MMPI-A-RF (most recently at the MMPI 2025 Symposium), and she taught undergraduate psychology at Tidewater Community College for nearly a decade. She contributes to Emora Health’s Clinical Insights Hub, translating current research on child and adolescent mental health into practical guidance for families.
