Hannah Owens, LMSW, is a licensed master social worker and mental health writer at Emora Health, where she creates evidence-based, compassionate resources for parents, kids, teens, and young adults. Clinically, her expertise lies in working with individuals living with serious mental illness, and she brings that experience to writing that informs, represents, and advocates for people living with mental health conditions and their loved ones.
She began her career in community mental health and went on to serve as Mental Health Editor at Verywell Mind, where she wrote widely on mental illness symptoms and treatment and led hands-on testing and thorough reviews of more than 50 online therapy services and directories. That work made her a trusted voice on how to evaluate and choose mental health care, and she has also contributed to Everyday Health as an author and medical reviewer. She is Associate Editor for GROUP, the academic journal of the Eastern Group Psychotherapy Society.
Hannah holds a Master of Social Work (MSW) and a Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA), both from New York University, and is based in New York City. She also draws on her own lived experience to keep her writing relatable and accessible. Her areas of focus include serious mental illness, online therapy, mood and anxiety conditions, and parenting and family mental health.
