Evidence-Based

Backed by clinical research and validated outcomes.

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a science-backed method that teaches skills using learning principles. It is the most researched treatment for autism spectrum disorder.

Modern ABA is child-centered and play-based. It focuses on teaching real skills kids need, not just stopping behaviors. Good ABA respects that autistic brains are different while helping kids learn.

ABA programs are run by Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs). Trained behavior technicians deliver it. Each child gets goals made just for them based on what they're good at and what they need.

Core ABA strategies

Techniques your child's team may use.

A young child is focused on playing with colorful building blocks at a white table. In the softly blurred background, an adult male and female sit on a sofa, appearing to be in a calm conversation in an indoor setting.
  • Natural Environment Teaching (NET)

    • Learning happens through play and everyday life
    • Following what the child cares about and enjoys
    • Using skills in real places, not just in one room
    • Building the child's own want to learn
  • Discrete Trial Training (DTT)

    • Structured, systematic skill instruction
    • Breaking complex skills into learnable steps
    • Immediate feedback and reinforcement
    • Data-driven progress monitoring
  • Functional Communication Training

    • Teaching kids to talk or use devices instead of problem behaviors
    • Building real language skills or helping with AAC (talking devices)
    • Stopping behaviors that come from frustration
    • Building speaking and listening skills
  • Social Skills Training

    • Peer interaction and play skills
    • Perspective-taking and empathy building
    • Conversation and friendship skills
    • Group-based practice opportunities

Frequently asked questions

What parents ask most about ABA therapy.

ABA can start as early as 18 months. Research shows that early help (before age 5) works best. But kids and teens of any age can benefit from ABA. Programs are changed to fit each age.

It depends on your child's needs and goals. Full ABA programs usually have 25-40 hours a week. Smaller ABA programs focus on specific skills in 10-25 hours a week. Your BCBA will say what's right for your child.

Good, modern ABA is child-centered and play-based. It respects autistic brains. It focuses on teaching skills and communication, not forcing kids to act non-autistic. At Emora, our BCBAs follow ethical rules that put the child first.

Most insurance must cover ABA therapy for autism. Coverage changes by state and plan. Emora's team can check what your insurance covers.

Yes. Online ABA, especially parent-focused help, has good research backing it. Virtual ABA works well for parent training, behavior help, and social skills.
